Missing on Superstition Mountain

Author: Elise Broach
Fiction
Genre: Adventure and Mystery
Rating: I thought it was awesome! The kids are very curious and adventurous. There aren't that many funny parts but it's so exciting and the mountain in the book is so mystical sounding from all the other people in the book. They say it's haunted. I would recommend this book to grade 4 and up because it is a little bit scary.

Rio 2

Rating: I read the book before I watched the movie. I would give it 9/10 because there was a lot of goofing around. I thought it was really funny. In the book it says that two bird species are going to war, I like this because it turns out it wasn't war, it's soccer! I really liked the new characters, Gabby the poisonous frog loves Nigel the evil bird and it's funny because Gabby has gone coo coo about Nigel. I would recommend this book for all ages but if it's really young you might need to explain some of the words.

Compared to the Movie: The movie followed the book and was very similar. Some of the words were exactly the same. I would still say it's funny and exciting. I would recommend it for all ages.

The Whale Rider

Author: Witi Ihimaera

Fiction

Year Published: 2003

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Type: Audio book

Review: I enjoyed listening to this book. It was about a girl and a whale. Her Grandpa doesn't like her because he wanted a boy grandchild instead of a girl. He was looking for a chief to carry on their traditions and duties. It wasn't the best book because it was read by a narrator with an strong accent. It  would be hard for younger kids to listen to. Also there was a lot of death in the book so I would recommend it for older kids. It is a sad book.

I also watched the move. The movie was very different from the book. The story didn't follow the book. The scenes in the book were described differently from the movie. There were missing parts of the book in the movie. The movie dragged on and was hard to stay interested in.

The book was most interesting to me because it talked a lot about where man originated from. I would give it a 4/10 rating of my favorite books.

Nathaniel Fludd Beastologist

Author: RL LaFevers

Fiction

Year Published: 2009

Genre: Fantasy

Type: hard cover

Review: The book Nathaniel Fludd Beastologist was a good book. It really captured me because I really love beasts and magical creatures.  It is about a boy who loses his parents at sea and he is adopted by his last relative. When he came to the house he was surprised to learn that beasts are real and that his aunt has one of the five dodo's on the planet. It was awesome because there was a lot of scary but exciting parts.
